DISASTER RISK REDUCTION, NRM, AND CLIMATE CHANGE
🌍 Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction & Resilience
⚠️ The Challenge
Madhesh Province is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Seasonal floods, heatwaves, cold waves, and droughts have become more frequent and intense, disproportionately affecting the poorest and most marginalized populations.
Low-lying terrain, unsustainable land use, and weak infrastructure make communities particularly exposed to disasters. Climate change also threatens agriculture-based livelihoods, degrades ecosystems, and increases public health risks, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite rising risks, local capacity for preparedness and adaptation remains limited. Many communities lack early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, and access to climate information, while climate issues remain under-prioritized in local planning and budgeting.
🌱 Our Approach
BWSN supports communities to anticipate, adapt to, and respond effectively to climate-related risks. Our approach integrates climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and environmental conservation, grounded in equity, participation, and local leadership.
We strengthen community resilience through awareness, capacity building, and collaboration with local governments, ensuring climate action is inclusive and sustainable.
